Digital Automatic Terminal Information Service
(D-ATIS)
For runway and taxiway instructions and local weather conditions, pilots can obtain ATIS messages worldwide with high reliability, at any time, using ARINC's Digital Automatic Terminal Information Service (D-ATIS).
Available at hundreds of the world's busiest airports and in use by hundreds of airlines and smaller aircraft companies, D-ATIS allows pilots to receive and read ATIS text messages using the aircraft's existing display format via ARINC's GLOBALink service—or any other data link service.
When used in conjunction with the ARINC TWIP message service (currently available in the United States), pilots can also receive local terminal Doppler weather radar severe weather information—including wind shear, storm cells, microbursts, gust fronts, and moderate-to-heavy precipitation.
Here's how D-ATIS benefits aviation stakeholders:
- Aircrew—With reliable, accurate delivery of ATIS messages via digital data link, the aircrew no longer needs to manually transcribe routine information. Pilots can download and save D-ATIS messages at any time during the flight, opening up the critical approach phase for more important tasks.
- Airlines—Early departure messages mean fewer delays and improved airline efficiency.
- Passengers—Reduced aircrew workloads and fewer delays mean more traveler convenience.
- Air Traffic Service Providers—Compatible format means ATSPs can have their ATIS messages received by aircraft around the world, regardless of the installed avionics. ARINC continually works with ATSPs to confirm that their ATIS messages can be delivered to aircraft using their systems.
- Airline Operations Centers—AOCs can compile regularly delivered messages used in dispatching flight operations, as well as in prioritizing and planning ahead.
- Air Traffic Controllers—Advanced D-ATIS workstations allow controllers to quickly generate and update ATIS messages on airport status and local weather conditions.
- ARINC’s StarCaster® ATIS system is ideal for small to mid-size airports
Web D-ATIS
Not only can aircraft request Digital ATIS information of GLOBALink media, but airline dispatch and operations centers can get up-to-date airport information using ARINC’s Web D-ATIS interface as well. A simple web browser and Internet connection is all that is required to give your dispatchers and operations staff access to the same data available to pilots for airports around the world.
