Interface Adapter Unit
Versatile LRU Capable of Multi-threaded Real-Time Operation
Disparate technologies that can’t work together can present operational problems and end up being very costly. ARINC’s Interface Adapter Unit (IAU) is a line replaceable unit (LRU) that serves as an intelligent technology bridge between new and legacy systems and components, providing critical integration capabilities that may help you avoid budget-straining software changes. Most modifications can even be proven in the lab without expensive flight testing or any impact on Operational Flight Programs (OFPs).
The IAU supports all data types—analog, digital, and serial—and functions as a dual redundant system with auto failover capability. Ethernet interfaces provide a growth path from legacy business speeds to the latest in avionics interface technology. Its modular, object-oriented design enables rapid incorporation of additional software interfaces and algorithm implementation when necessary.
Key features include:
- Certified to MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461/464, MIL-STD704F, and MIL-E-5400T for Class 1A operations
- Capable of interfacing and translating between I/O types, including: MIL-STD-1553, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, ARINC 429, Ethernet, Discrete, and Analog
- Discrete I/O ports individually configurable for common avionics types
- Resident BIT with available status messaging
- Provides bus monitoring and data recording capability using an expandable 1GB flash drive
- Signal conditioning: IAU can provide targeted data for receiving systems
- Maintenance port for rapid reprogramming and system monitoring
- Mounts with standard ARINC 404 tray
- Embedded web server capability
- PC/104 form factor allows a variety of commercial off the shelf (COTS) I/O circuit card assemblies (CCAs) for rapid configuration
